Royal Standard, a busy Greene King pub on London Road in Headington, offers a welcoming atmosphere despite its somewhat unassuming exterior. The venue transitions from a local pub feel at the front to a more relaxed, chain-style dining area towards the rear, making it a comfortable spot for enjoying good times and company. It truly stands out with its fantastic selection of beers on tap and vibrant showcasing of live sports.
The pub serves British cuisine daily, providing a decent meal for the money. Patrons can enjoy a good selection of beers and wine, including Belhaven Best Bitter on draft, which is noted as a rare find in the south of England. Food is served throughout the day, ensuring visitors can enjoy a meal or a snack alongside their drinks.
This establishment is well-suited for a broad range of visitors, including families and those with dogs, making it a flexible choice for various outings. With facilities like a beer garden and games such as pool and darts, it caters to casual gatherings, friends wanting to watch live sports, or anyone seeking a relaxed environment for a drink and a bite to eat.

Whether you’re here for the big match, drinks with friends, or just the electric atmosphere, this is the place to be. Great sports, great people, and an atmosphere that keeps you coming back every time! 🍺🎉
Real Ales seemed limited. Maybe as pub is affiliated to Greene King. Saying that there was no Abbots Ale or GK IPA available? Strange?
Although the layout is very much the same, there is adequate space for pushchairs, wheelchairs and mobility scooters between tables too. Gone are the grimey tacky furniture and bar surfaces that were once the norm.
Customers can enjoy meals and drinks outdoors too, which is adequately lit up at night.
There is also a big screen for watching popular sporting events ideally situated in the lower level at the rear of the pub where you'll find a pool table and a further addition of tables and seating. This area leads out to the garden where blankets and throws are provided at the door for your warmth and comfort.
I didn't have anything to eat on this visit but did notice the extensive choice displayed on the menu boards.
Dog bowls and treats are also available too.
The clientele fully represents the residents, workers and senior citizens of the local area.
I look forward to visiting again soon!

The pub was almost empty.
The service was OK but the steak and Ale pie was pretty awful as clearly evident from the picture.
