Details

Six Bells is a welcoming pub and restaurant situated in Headington's old quarry, Oxford, retaining a warm country charm within a city setting. The building itself has a rich history, dating back to 1782 as a private house and becoming a pub in the early nineteenth century, taking its name from the six bells of St Andrew's Church. Following a recent refurbishment, the interior offers a delightful atmosphere with cosy seating, rustic furniture, and the warmth of roaring fires, while a spacious, heated beer garden provides an appealing outdoor area.

The cuisine focuses on modern British pub food, crafted with high-quality local and seasonal produce. Diners can enjoy traditional Sunday roasts, generously portioned steak platters, classic fish and chips, and homemade pies, with popular choices including steak and ale pie or cottage pie. The menu also thoughtfully provides vegan and vegetarian options. Complementing the dishes is a selection of real ales, wines, and cocktails, often highlighted by guests for both quality and value.

This establishment caters wonderfully to a diverse clientele, being both child-friendly and dog-friendly. It provides an ideal setting for relaxed lunches, special occasions, or simply a memorable evening out. The Six Bells is well-equipped to host various gatherings, from intimate dinners to larger group events and celebrations like Christenings or funerals, with its flexible spaces and heated outdoor decking.

I’ve chosen six bells to celebrate my birthday dinner and honestly I could’ve not chosen a better place!!! Everyone ordered the steak platter and they were all amazed with the portion size and all the flavour. The service was amazing, thanks to all the staff who made my day even more special!!

Absolutely delicious. We ordered steak platter, they honestly mention that in takes around 45 minutes, but totally worth it.
Also tried their burger - perfect 👍
Very nice beer garden. Friendly staff.

Best roast I’ve had at a pub by a long shot, especially the cabbage with lardons underneath it all! Beef and chicken were both excellent, and the gravy was the real deal - and I say this as a fussy yorkshireman. I like a bit more of a pancakey Yorkshire but this was by no means bad. Service was quite slow, but we came in with no booking towards the end of lunch.

THE best veggie burger I have had outside my home - my husband would be upset if I said it was better than his, but it came exceedingly close. Smashed squash burger and it was truly delicious, hugely flavoursome and fabulous textures. It all really worked. I'm not a fan of red pepper, but I think you had some in the sauce and it still rocked.

My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the smashed beef burger and the fries were cooked to perfection.

Beautifully served.

All members of staff who we spoke with - three or four of them - were super friendly. Thanks guys.

4 stars for atmosphere - although we were the only people in there - it was a Wednesday at 2pm but we have imagination and assume it would be awesome in the evening!

There's also parking onsite. I would highly recommend this place....lunch...dinner....lunch again....yum!

First time visiting, the food was great, we chose the Korean wings which were very good, covered in spicy gochujang sauce. The steak platter was excellent with perfectly cooked medium steak, super chunky chips, large garlic mushrooms, fried bacon and cabbage with roasted peppers and side salad. The children's menu was also great with smashed burger, chicken goujons and fries. The only bit holding back from a 5 star was that the steak platter took 1 hour and 20 minutes. We were happy to wait but would have been great to be kept informed. The waiting staff did seem like a new team and still getting the hang of things but overall was a positive experience and will look to come back again soon
