Brown’s is a Covered Market institution; classic breakfasts, plenty of choice, and no attempt to overcomplicate it.

I’ve been many times. It’s consistent. Full English done right. Good sausages with decent bite, solid bacon, eggs cooked as asked whether fried or poached. Beans and grilled tomato exactly as expected. With fried bread if that's your thing. Toast too. Generous plates. Lots of options if you want something different.

The pot of leaf tea is my highlight. Strong, proper brew strength, served in a pot and with extra hot water. Perfect with my breakfast.

It’s often crowded but the turnover is quick. Usually shown to a table, order at the counter, food brought over without much wait. Extra tables outside help when the market is busy.

Not fancy. Not trying to be. Just dependable and tasty. Busy but friendly lot.

My wife and I had lunch here on a Saturday, and it was clearly very popular, with the café being quite busy. Despite this, we were shown to a table quickly and given menus; ordering is done at the till, which was straightforward.

We ordered two cappuccinos and shared a slice of carrot cake. My wife chose a BLT, lightly toasted, while I had a cheeseburger. The food itself was fairly simple—very much in keeping with a student-style café offering—but the coffee and cake were excellent.

The drinks were served at a good, hot temperature, which was especially welcome on a cold winter’s day, and the cake was soft, fresh, and satisfying. Overall, a relaxed and lively spot with good coffee and cake, ideal for a casual lunch.

Visited Browns cafe in the indoor market this morning for our breakfast treat before Christmas shopping. We arrived about 10ish and it was very busy. We only waited a few minutes and a table became available. Table 7. It was a table for 4 and there was just 2 of us so they asked if we minded sharing the table as by then the queue had grown quite long behind us. We didn’t mind and we shared it with a single person. I had 2 poached eggs on toast and my partner had a full English both were very nice and the poached eggs were perfect too. The turn over was quite fast I noticed and the queue had soon gone. So I wouldn’t worry about queuing at all. The menu was so varied and had lots of choice and the food was served quickly. Our breakfast with a latte and americano cost £24-£25. Def worth the money. I would recommend Brown’s and the fact it was full on our arrival shows how popular it is. I would definitely visit again next time I’m in Oxford.
