Details

The Lighthouse presents a charming and inviting atmosphere along Oxford's picturesque River Thames, seamlessly blending traditional English pub culture with contemporary flair. Inside, the decor features exposed brick, wooden beams, and a thoughtful mix of vintage and modern furnishings, creating a comfortable and stylish space. This historic canal pub evokes its nautical heritage with sea-faring oil paintings and maritime elements suspended from the ceiling, offering a unique setting that stands out. Overlooking the river, a delightful outdoor terrace provides stunning views, perfect for enjoying the changing seasons, while an open fire in the 'Boiler Room' ensures a cosy retreat during colder months.

Drawing inspiration from across the Mediterranean, the restaurant primarily offers Spanish tapas, prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The menu includes an array of dishes from Iberian cured meats to delightful seafood options, such as the well-regarded tempura prawns and white wine prawns. Notably, there is a comprehensive selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes available, with the butternut squash risotto often highlighted as an excellent choice. To complement the cuisine, an extensive cocktail menu features both classic and inventive creations, meticulously crafted with premium spirits and fresh fruits.

This establishment suits those seeking a relaxed yet refined dining experience, ideal for casual gatherings, intimate dinners, or celebrating special occasions. Its emphasis on social dining, through a versatile tapas menu, makes it perfect for sharing with friends or enjoying a light lunch. The riverside location offers a serene backdrop for any event, from sunny afternoons on the terrace to cosy evenings indoors. Furthermore, a dedicated private function room, 'The Boiler Room', can accommodate parties, meetings, and other private events, providing a versatile option for larger groups.

The Lighthouse had a great atmosphere and cocktails but the food let it down for us. My gyoza dumplings were quite solid, the mushrooms were tasteless and our portion of bread cost £4.50 for 2 small slices of french stick. This was however rectified by the waiting staff in the bill. We were served by two lovely people who were efficient and really friendly 🤗

Excellent cocktails and the kindest service. The staff were genuinely warm and welcoming, and the whole place has a relaxed, cosy vibe. Drinks were made with real care, and the atmosphere felt easy and comfortable without being noisy. Really enjoyed my evening here and would happily come back.

Last minute find and really enjoyed this place. Slightly away from the centre of town, so the footfall seemed like people who had chosen to be there rather than stumbling across it. Delicious cocktails and tapas, the prawns, tortilla, and pork were standout. Lovely high tables also to watch the world go by from. We will be back!

To quickly describe this place, if you're into a quick bite and a drink with some friends, this is clearly a good place to come. It has good tapas, good drinks, and great service at affordable prices, especially if you get the food at order two and pay for one offer.

I think the place can be appreciated most during the evening if you manage to get a seat, but it's a nice place to visit even during the day. We had a good experience here, so I recommend it.
