No.1 Ship Street, an award-winning independent Modern British Brasserie, offers a distinctive dining experience in a historic central Oxford backstreet, not far from the Ashmolean Museum. This intimate, two-floor establishment blends traditional charm with contemporary flair, featuring a warm, woody yet elegant atmosphere with dark green panelled walls, modern artwork, and gleaming copper-topped tables. Four of us ate there: starters, two scallops were delicious, one had nice bread and butter, one the goats cheese with honeycomb, this was ok but overly sweet. Mains: three duck were nice, well presented but again a bit sweet. The other dish was ricotta and carrot cannelloni, this was incrediably sweet, cloying and heavy. desert: two Tarte Tatin, one with vanilla ice cream the other with walnut ice cream. The tarte tatin was not like a traditional French tarte tatin. This again was incredibly over sweet, dark almost burn caramel flavour and a very pasty like base. We all came to the conclusion that the chef has a sweet tooth😅.
The hot drinks seemed a little overpriced.
