Arbequina, on Oxford's vibrant Cowley Road, offers a distinct dining experience within a converted Victorian chemist's shop, retaining some of its original charm under a restored sign. The restaurant exudes a relaxed and bohemian atmosphere, with a constant buzz of well-fed diners enjoying the lively surroundings. Its character is further enhanced by a distinctive long zinc bar and a small open kitchen, contributing to an unfussy yet engaging setting.
The cuisine centres on Spanish tapas-style sharing plates, renowned for their quality, unique, and well-sourced ingredients, occasionally featuring Middle Eastern influences. Diners can enjoy a concise, often changing menu with highlights such as their acclaimed tortilla, seared chorizo, crispy Sanlucar crystal prawns, and fried aubergine with whipped feta and molasses. Complementing the food is a thoughtful selection of cocktails, Spanish wines, and natural wine options.
This inviting establishment suits those looking for authentic, flavourful food in a lively and unpretentious environment. It proves ideal for relaxed first dates, casual gatherings with friends, or celebrating special occasions, appealing to a broad range of diners including vegetarians and vegans with clearly marked options. The casual dress code and vibrant atmosphere make it a popular choice for both locals and visitors seeking a memorable meal.

Personally loved the onion tortilla 10/10! The rest of the plates were nice including the beetroot borani and iberico, but I didn’t enjoy the chicken and aubergine. The chicken was dry and I personally did not understand the flavours of the aubergine dish. Would recommend the other dishes though!
I am grateful to the waitress who made the experience eating at Arbequina so warm! To the manager of Arbequina, I want to commend her. She was the server responsible for inside table near the windows/toilet corridor on 18th June 2026. Brown hair. Great stack of jewellery.
