Details

Mamma Mia Pizzeria Summertown has been an Oxford institution since first opening in 1981, offering a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere that has made it a beloved neighbourhood trattoria for over forty years. Situated on South Parade, the restaurant recently moved to slightly larger premises next door, maintaining its familiar, authentic Italian character while introducing a gleaming new bar and open-plan kitchen. Despite its often bustling and lively environment, it consistently provides a welcoming and comfortable dining experience for all.

The cuisine style focuses on traditional Italian fare, with a particular emphasis on pizzas and pasta made from authentic recipes and quality imported ingredients. Diners can enjoy hand-stretched, thin-crust pizzas featuring Neapolitan '00' flour, alongside highly praised pasta dishes like the Penne All' Arrabbiata, which some describe as the finest outside of Rome. Popular starters include generous cheesy folded garlic breads, crispy calamari, and fried zucchini sticks, while tempting desserts such as tiramisu and tartufo complete the meal.

This pizzeria is well-suited for a variety of occasions, making it an excellent choice for family gatherings with children and grandparents, casual dates, student outings, or enjoyable meals with work colleagues and friends. Its friendly service and consistent quality create a reliable and welcoming hub for anyone seeking good food and a convivial atmosphere. Mamma Mia Pizzeria Summertown truly embodies a vibrant taste of Italy right here in Oxford.

This is a really good restaurant serving all sorts of amazing pizza and Italian dishes for a price that i consider a bargain. It is also very filling and the service is fast.

What a fantastic find in Summertown. Every dish we ordered was absolutely delicious and felt truly authentic.

The charcuterie board was a highlight, featuring high-quality meats alongside a fresh, vibrant bowl of marinated vegetables and toasted bread. My rigatoni was cooked perfectly, generously topped with fresh parmesan and herbs.

We really enjoyed the thin-crust pizza topped with fresh basil and a rich tomato sauce, which hit the spot. It is a wonderful spot for a meal and I am already looking forward to my next visit.

A really chic and charming restaurant! From the moment we arrived, the service was excellent. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and made us feel so welcome.

This was one of the first restaurants my family and I visited after relocating, and the staff went above and beyond by giving us recommendations for places to visit around Oxford, which was such a thoughtful touch.

The food was delicious, the atmosphere was lovely, and the genuine hospitality made our experience even more memorable. We would definitely recommend Mamma Mia’s and will certainly be back!

Maybe an unfair comparison, but I spent my 21st birthday here (I’m now 63). I have spent my life since comparing all pizzas to the amazing pizza I had back then. I haven’t had the opportunity to go back since but managed to order a takeaway last night. So disappointed. Incredibly expensive (more than the sit down meal we had in a restaurant with wine the night before) and tasteless. The calamari was dry and also tasteless. We’d have been better off going to Pizza Express. Mediocre at best. My heart is broken 😢

Great little authentic feeling Italian place. Service was a little slow but that’s to be expected on a busy Friday night. The food was all piping hot and delicious which more than made up for the wait. The chocolate cake was a little dry but I would recommend the profiteroles in its place. Certainly worth a visit, but it is very busy so make sure you book in advance.
